Seriously, tons of great old films here from all sorts of genres but Halloween gets me in the mood for bad horror and scifi movies and there are plenty of those here.

The movies mostly seem to be on Youtube and Google video so streaming is pretty nippy but quality isn’t great. Not exactly blu-ray quality films though.

This is a quick and dirty plugin I wrote  for xbox media center to scrape the content from the Gresham College website and provide links for streaming either the video or audio available. Sadly the navigation isn’t great as there isn’t really much to go on from the site, I am looking at adding a search and maybe splitting it by year to help. Also XBMC plays nicer with MP3/MP4 in terms of buffering so stick with those if they are available.

Just scratching an itch for myself but if you fancy watching a few free lectures on a whole load of subjects, grab this and install in your XBMC plugins folder.

On page 27 you’ll find an interesting symposium on Science Fiction as a literary genre with Neal Stephenson as a guest speaker.

At first glance it looks like an outstanding resource for documentaries plus tons of other interesting  films. The design of the site is friendly on the eye, layout nice and simple and the quality of the streaming looks good with options for varying quality.

Most importantly they don’t appear to be filtering on IP address so I can watch it in the UK with no issues, let’s hope it stays that way.

I have nothing but good things to say about this site, I’m sure I’ll spend a fair bit of time there, thumbs up to all involved.

I might wear different shades though.

These episodes form a prequel to a larger story the people behind it would obviously like to produce but no doubt dependent on the success and interest drummed up by the web episodes. It’s nice to see any kind of scifi/horror/fantasy TV being made so go and watch it…maybe they will make some more!

Must be some genre fans lurking in Endemol with this and the recent Dead Set which I believe was produced by another company owned by Endemol though I may be wrong.

There isn’t much yet to go on apart from a little bit here:

Three scientists have vanished.
Two bloggers are under siege.
One man has an urgent message to deliver.
None of them are safe.

In a nightmarish hideaway, a desperate fugitive is risking his life to get a warning through to the outside world…

… And on the streets of London, a journalist and a college drop-out try to find out why research labs are being invaded by soldiers, before they become this sinister army’s next victims.

Meanwhile, a faceless and growing enemy is determined to hunt down all three and stop them finding each other, and getting the answers they need.

The longer the hunt takes, the hungrier the hunters become.

I’ve watched the first couple of episodes and it has that whole ‘LOST’ WTF is going on kind of feel to it. Hopefully it’ll make some sense soon as they haven’t too much time to play with. It looks interesting though, so I’ll keep watching for now.
